The Never Ending Story: Part IV :)
-
Someday soon...I will, maybe, probably... wrap up the shop changes needed to start working late nights on CARS!
Last Week I finished the Overhead lighting
10 Overhead 8' Tandem 4 Commercial (6 For "everyday" lighting, 4 Dedicated for the "paint booth")
All lights in the shop now use the same bulbs! I'm also running the 6500k temperature lights ~ which is close to midday sunshine.
NOTE: This pic only the 6 "everday" overheads are on, not the other 4 OR the other 12 4' fixtures on the walls and under the storage unit!
But after finishing the lights...I seem to keep adding tasks...it's like trying to hit a moving target
For a long time now I've had a nagging want to move the compressor outside the shop for many reasons dust protection, safety, noise, extra room!
But with the price of concrete, and materials to build/buy a shed to put the thing in (2500.00+-) it's just not in the cards right now if I ever want to get the 50 Super done this winter!
So I had an epiphany last week after finishing the lights... just "Wall the darn thing in"
$200.00 in materials and I'm almost done with this "addendum" to the shop work! This is such a simple/cheap/effective solution - I don't know why I didn't think of it before!
A little more insulation on the inside, hang a new light and slap some paint on and then I can try to wrap up the shop work (...yeah, right :o)
Current Countdown Punchlist to REALLY Working on CARS!
1. Finish Compressor Room
2. Insulate Garage Doors
3. Clean Shop
4. Epoxy Floor in Paint Area
Estimate: 2 weeks  -
One of the first things I did after moving into my house was to add a 4' x 24' addition to the 24' x 24' garage. I sunk bolts in the concrete where the compressor sits, placing them just right to use Hudson engine mounts under the compressor. Works slick.Workin Stiff

Use some insulation and/or baffling inside the compressorenclosure to allow even more peace and quiet in the shop!
I like that giant "hospital curtain" you have surrounding your painting area!"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -

The white areas in the pictures (not on the outside wall) is 2" foam board insulation. A couple of simple cuts and no itching!
That's a "Goff Curtain Wall" - seems to be fairly well made. It will be interesting (to me anyway!) to see how it holds up over time.
It was a cheaper alternative to walling the paint area off - and still allows me to keep the shop open when needed. -
Looks like a nice shop. Do you have room for a lift in there someplace?
One can never have to much light when woking on a project. I have 8 - 4 foot fixture around the perimiter of my 24 X 24 garage and it's nice and bright in there at any time. I have a 10 X 10 utility shed just outside the garage and plan to put my compressor there and pipe in the air.
One last question....... Is that fridge stocked up with the barley-pop? lol

Hi Ron
Thanks - the shop was a wreck when I bought the place (still beat the old carport though!)
The shop has 12' ceilings so a lift would fit - but the slab wasn't poured thick enough IMHO to bolt a big 2 or 4 post lift and really if I were going to keep the house I'd re-do the entire shop floor.
I bought a Snap-On mid-rise scissor lift that should help quite a bit - especially when doing bodywork and painting! No more friggin bending over and standing on my head to paint the lower lip of wheel well
Oh and the fridge isn't stocked right now, but if anyone wants to come over and work on cars it will be

The lift you have sounds like a good plan. It will make it so much easier to do so many jobs on a car and they prove to be invaluable.
If you were a little bit closer, i'd take you up on that offer.
Ron
