Hello everyone ....I'm new to the forum. I'm recently retired and have lots of time now to spend on my car hobby. I'm not a great mechanic so I have to look for all the help I can get to work on my Flathead Mercurys. This is a great site ....in reading through the previous posts, there are some very knowledgeable folks on here willing to share their knowledge.

We're glad you're here. Welcome to the group.

    What cars do you have?

    Pictures?

Hope you find what you seek here and are able to help shed some light on these cars.

    Thank you for the welcome.

    I have two Mercurys ...a 1951 Merc Convertible 95 % finished and a 1940

Mercury Convertible in the early stages of a total frame off resto. The 1951 was a total frame off resto and took me 4 years doing everything but the paint and interior.

Over the years, I have built or helped build the following :

    2-1949 Merc Convertibles

    1-1950 Merc Convertible

    1-1951 Merc Convertible ( mine )

    2 -1951 Merc 4 4drs.

    1-40 Merc Convertible --in progress.

I like original's particularly the 49-50-51 editions..easy to work on...still great driving autos. I keep my cars bone stock original to spec and drive them as often as I can.

My best friend passed away recently and left me his 1933 Ford Coupe that has all modern day driveline, engine 350 mod Chev. , disc brakes all around, auto trans, ac, Mustang front end, etc. Its a beautiful original stock looking retro car but way out of my league( meaning I don't care for lightning fast and this one can easily get away from you ). I would rather drive my 51 Convertible anyday.

When I get more skilled at this, I will gladly post a pic of my 51 Convertible. It turned out really nice and for all intents, is a new 1951 automobile from the ground up.

Sounds like you have been busy. A nice selection of vehicles to own and work on.

I lean towards the original mostly but in some cases I think the modifications are needed. I would rather see a modified Ford "all Ford" though but to each their own.

I look forward to seeing the pictures.

Thanks Rich ....I work on the theory real engines do not have valve covers ! The beehive distributor will test ones resolve I can testify first hand but when they work they are beautiful.
