Anyone want a freebie Super Wasp ?
-
Took a look at a '53 Super Wasp sedan today, but decided I have enough Hudsons already, so passed this one up.
However, the gentleman who owns the car has lost storage, (he lives in a townhouse), and he says the car is destined for the scrapyard if he dosen't find someone to rescue it !! Thusly, he'll even GIVE it away to someone who appreciates what a Hudson is, rather than see it crushed.
The car's owner's name is Gary Edge, and the car is in Winfield, British Columbia, just a few miles north of Kelowna. Gary is a nice Guy, and if I were to take the car, I'd happily give him a couple bucks for his troubles, even though he is asking nothing. I'm spooky about giving out his cell number on the internet, so maybe if you're interested, leave your email address here and I'll email it to you.
I'm experimenting (again), with resizing pictures, so bear with me, and I'll try and get six or seven up before too long.

According to Gary, the motor turns over freely, (its a 262 with manual trans), but the carb is off for rebuild at this time.

I've got a couple more but I'll have to resize them AGAIN -- because even though they're done the same size as these ones, apparently they're a couple pixels more than the allowable limit !!
Frustrating !!!
I'll do them later.

Let's try this again -- trimmed the picture down a couple more times.

Going by the interior photo, it appears to be a standard transmission.
-
With a welding torch I'm guessing it could be saved, or 100% dismantled and many parts saved.
-
What a shame it's 1,825 miles away! Even at free, it would be over $600 for fuel alone to go and get! But, that is half what the cost would've been back in July!"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
I hope someone grabs that Hudson. Its too far from me but it couldnt have sat out long because the floor appears solid. Looking closer I think I see an Overdrive Knob???I would give the Guy something too..
Probably take too long to get it an Add in the White Triangle so If anyone knows someone in that area that may be interested but not in the Forum let them know and/or tell the Owner to put it on EBay. Its sure to sell quick for his low asking price. -
This is not going to be a pretty sight, seeing someone stab the sides with a forklift, slam it into the crusher, and squash it down to 18" high !!
I'm glad I won't have to watch that if it does happen !!
Might as well have some fun with the seats too, and set fire to that 55 year old original material. Creamation works for some of us, and I'd rather end my days that way than rot in a scap heap !
Such a sad ending for a gracious old girl.

Just how far in Canada is this from Washington???

Uncle Josh wrote:'There's no such thing as a free puppy'
If you're insinuating that this is some kind of scam "Uncle Josh", I can assure you it is not ! I brought a trailer with me when I went and looked at the car, and Gary practically begged me to load it up and take it away before the wrecker came, no charge. ( Actually, that's why he called me in the first place, because he knew I appreciate what a Hudson is, and would probably care for it as best I could). If I didn't already have too many Hudsons to care for, and store, I'd have done just that, but then I'd be worrying about it every time it snowed or rained because I have no more room inside for it, and eventually I'd be giving it away just like Gary is doing because I too could not care for it properly. We all know what havoc a tarp job can wreak on a car, and I simply won't do that to any more cars. That one I learned the hard way.
If you mean it will cost money to bring it back, well, of course it will --- what Hudson dosen't, or any other car for that matter.
Yeah, it'll cost some gas, some time, and some work maintaining the car in storage later, and that could be interpreted as "no free lunch", but the old girl should give some of that back, especially if its got an overdrive trans, and/or a runable engine. Gary said he put a battery in it, spun it over to see if it was free ( it was ), and decided since it was running when parked, it should be possible to start it up again, with a carb rebuild, and some new plugs. Lights went on, ( don't know if the radio worked, or if he tried that, but its there anyway.) He never did finish the project however, and there it sits, for only a few more days.
Never thought I'd see the day when you can't even give a Hudson away !!

1500 mile round trip is only $250--$300 in gas I saw enough good parts in the pics to make it a
win--win situation, somebody grab this thing !! -
I missed seeing the pics, were there any pics? Would like to see it, maybe I can help spread the news. Hopefully someone will save it. Thanks, Bob

Ryan-
Why not pick it up and bring it to the Nat'l.? Don't you have enough room in your trailer for two cars? I'm sure someone there would even buy it from you for a few hundred for your trouble and that way the car wouldn't go to the crusher. Even if this car wasn't saved, the parts alone are worth the trouble of doing something with it. -

Unfortunately Russell, my trailer is big enough for one car and a lot of "other" stuff, but not for two cars. As soon as the convertible is done I'll have to upgrade to a two car unit though, as Anne will not want to leave "her" car behind when we're on the show circuit.
Also right now my trailer is housing a car too, because I've plumb plugged the garages with cars, and car # 11 is stuck with living in the trailer. I actually had to rent an open trailer to go and maybe fetch this car, but when I saw it I thought that I could easily find someone who'd want it via this forum, so passed it up telling Gary I was pretty sure I'd be able to help him save it from the crusher by putting the word out.
Gary is not particularly "Hudson savey", but he knows what a Hudson is, because his Dad ( like mine ), had a couple when he was a kid, and told him if he ever stumbled over one, not to let it get away, because someday they'd be pretty rare. Anyway, to make a long story shorter, he has a soft spot for this old girl, but can no longer care for her, so she's gotta go. The landowner where it sitting says get it outtta here, or the wrecker will be doing it for him.
Hopefully, he'll be patient for a few more days. -
One more I missed struggling with resizers.
( Man oh man ) the first try turned out to be 98.6 kb !! Forum kicked it because it wants 97.7 !!
Picky, picky, pickey, pickey !!!
Guess I'm just getting cranky in my old age !! Maybe I should be putting the pictures on my own website where you can really see some detail.
We'll see what develops. (580 x 435)_122646522646452.jpg)

Got a PM from a fellow who lives in Kelowna, just a few miles away. Gave him Gary's number. Maybe he'll save this old girl for us.

OK
About 5000 mile R.T. for me, wanna ride along ? Might end up with free room and board for the winter !!! -
Got Gary's number (owner of the car) from Silverone and gave him a call .
Says the car has to be out of there by end of the month! If I put another car on my city lot here in Kelowna I will end up with living on 1/2 half a pension (divorce) or be run out by the neighborhood, but I would be willing to have it towed to a friend acreage and store it there til next spring or summer if someone is really interested in it or maybe I could part it out as it dosn't have any paper with it. As a HET member I hate to see go to the crusher.
Kelowna is 2hr north of the US ,Oroville crossing.
If anyone is interested let me know.

Estimated Time: 7 hours Estimated Distance: 386 miles x 2
14 hours, 772 miles round trip, 225.00 for fuel
I've got the rig and trailer to go but by the time you got her loaded up and with food and doggy-potty breaks that'd be close to 18-20 hours there and back again...doable...but, too much and too far to do by myself.
-
Wish it wasn't soooo far myself as being from Massachusetts. If anyone picks it up for parts and would like to sell the seats I would be very interested.

i wish i could pick a FREE hudson only 386 miles away here in australia

I guess the Hudson folks only save some cars ????? Thats a shame...The old Hudsons are the first Hudson Essex Terraplane folks. The car you have for a SAVE A HUDSON should be saved but not my cup of tea..Now we have the rags and coupes that get the money and now Hudson is great ??? LOL..Nuf said, Ron -

It has to be about 1000 miles for me but I'm thinking about it.

Frankly, I am stunned. You are all on here talking about what a great deal it is and how you wish you had room or the time or the few hundred dollars of gas to pick it up ...
A few short months ago I offered my Pacemaker for 500. It is in much better shape than this one, has an overdrive trans, 2 door coupe etc. All I got was people talking about what a shame it was that Canada was so far. PEOPLE! I DRIVE INTO NEW YORK STATE TO PICK UP PARTS SEVERAL TIMES A SEASON! IT'S A FEW HOURS, A CUP OF COFFEE AND A DRIVE!!!
And so here you are again bemoaning the distance and talking about the deal. IF YOU LIKE IT, PICK IT UP -- OR SHUT UP!
It's a great deal. Just do it. Spend a few hours on the weekend, take the wife or a buddy along, enjoy the scenery, buy some decent beer whilst you are in Canada, and bring the car back.Geoff.

#1. Traveling great distances isn't possible for everyone.
#2 It's not polite to tell people on this forum to shut up. -
Believe me, if we had the same gas prices a month ago and I did not have to tow a damn car trailer through snow (been there, done that, never again!), this thread would've never got beyond the second post. Yeah, i can drive up there right now for less than a grand (only have to do a hotel one night of four - have relatives along the way), but in November, through CO, WY, MT, ID and THEN have a border crossing with all the border BS to endure - fuggetaboutit!
Plus, vacation time from work while the kiddies are still in school...if I'm burning five days of vacation time, I want to be able to take my time and actually ENJOY the trip and not have to haul a$$ both ways, free car or not."The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,

Man, I'm thinking the same thing, all the way up through California, Oregon and Washington then the border BS. What are the rules about bringing a car from Canada.

Agreed, this is not the time of year for a 3,000 mile trip(for me) through the mountains.
-
Some of you guys crack me up. You don't want to pay for something but then you're willing to pay twice what it is worth in expense to pick it up.
-
nhp1127 wrote:Some of you guys crack me up. You don't want to pay for something but then you're willing to pay twice what it is worth in expense to pick it up.
I don't see anyone willing to pay the time or expense of picking it up, that seems to be the problem. It's too far away to make free worthwhile. It's not like you could fly up and drive it home. This is a drag a trailer both ways, probably two days each up, a day to get it loaded and moving and then three or more days home.I guess I'm just getting too old, that doesn't sound like fun any more.
Harry -
To answer about re-importing a car from Canada, I did it just last summer with a 49 Dodge. The important thing is having a title/paperwork chain on the car, and it's a breeze. Be sure and tell the Border Patrol that you need the 7501 to immediately re-register the car tho, since lot of times with old cars they are reluctant to give the form since it may get lost before the end of restoration when I guess a lot of folks retitle.
-
Jase, do you ask for that form going into Canada or coming out?
Harry -
When we went to Canada two years ago, they asked for a passport. We did not have one and Canada let us in, as we were just camping at Waterton Lakes National Park. Returning to the USA, was much worse, as they almost would not let us back in without a passport, and it was quite a hassle.
-
Free...that's a bit of a misnomer...my free time, what little there is is worth at "least" what I make OTJ - if it was in Port Orchard - I would have picked it up already

The distance and fuel costs aren't keeping me from pursuing this car...it's the time and effort required to do an 18-20 hour round trip ~ it's just not worth the "free car" to me when I have 6 vehicles to work on already!
 -
Hey Rambo,
If it was in Port Orchard I would have beat the wife and you to it, since I live there! LOL
T Jeff -
Looks like Dan & Rambo could recruit a new partner in crime!
Take a Ride in a Hudson Jet! -
Gas is now at $2 or a bit over, even under in some places, so you all quit squalin about cost, do the math , good gosh, you want it delivered ? If you got the time off from other obligations somebody go get this thing, I would even at 5000 mile R-T, nice little vacation, load up MOMMA and see some country. I would if I just had the time BUD
-
Well, I'm always up for a road trip. If either Dan or T Jeff want to go after it, I'll go along, spell you on the driving and add my invaluable assistance on jacking that sucker onto your trailer. Shoot me a PM.
