Good evening guys. Recently purchased a 308 block, stripped.

Would anyone have a list of serial #s to tell me what year it is?

I would appreciate any info, either 198553 or 798553.

What do you think? Thanks, Bob Parks

I think the engine is a 1952. Built in September. This based on the serial being 198553. If it was 798553 that would place it 478833 cars after the last Hudson built in 1954 and they did not built anywhere near that many cars in 1955 - 1957.

I'll verify that - from mid-1938 on serial and engine numbers were the same.

1948 thru 1951 serial numbers began at -101; but 1952 continued in sequence from 1951 and ran that way up thru the last 1954 number of 319720.

The number you gave fits in the Sept. 1952 numbers which ran 192,467 thru 199,206.

    Bob,

To further identify the block..To make sure the number has not been changed. There should be a casting date just below the distributor hole. The first letter designates the month, second and third digits are the day and the last digit is the year example: C302 would be March 30th 52. The casting date should predate the vin number. Often you can find similar casting dates on heads and manifolds...Probably more than you wanted to know.. LOL

    Dave:

Thanks for the info, will check it tomorrow. Doing prep work to get floors done and painting in bedrooms, about 1/2 done. I sure do like this forum and all the good info we have access to.

    Thanks again, Bob
