I'm finally buying my first car, its a 78 Chrysler Cordoba with the Chrysler 400 engine.

The paint is in perfect condition besides a small section on the hood and the interior is awesome, no rips no holes just one small crack on the dash.

Its got almost new tires, an Ellenbrook intake + filter, new carb, new valve covers (I forgot brand) and the alternator is about 3 times the size of the stock one + a new exhaust tip.

The guy im buying it from is asking $500 for it. Is that a good deal?

and could I clean the engine in it with a cheap 1450 PSI pressure washer if i dont get too close and stay away from electronics without damaging it?

let me know what you think about it.

    Thanks! :)

The 400 with a/c came with the 125 amp alternator, and is a stock part. The smaller 42 amp alternator on older Mopars is what you are thinking about.

The intake is an "Edelbrock" aluminum intake.

$500 is a good deal, assuming everything works and the body is good.

About washing the engine...Your car has the "LeanBurn" computer in it, and it is mounted on the air cleaner (big square attached box on the driver's side). Remove the air cleaner and the computer together, then cover the carb tight with a plastic bag (do this COLD, of course!), then you should be aboe to clean the engine compartment without much drama. Keep in mind, all of the wiring is 30 years old. Do NOT be overly aggressive in cleaning the engine! You would probably have MORE luck and do a better job by using Simple Green, a small and large wire brush, and a garden hose and taking your time cleaning things up. High-pressure blasting with a power washer is NEVER the way to do it right, unless you are disassembling the car and removing the engine...!

This one does have a/c, but by the looks of the parts it looks to be newer then the car or most of the parts where replaced in the last 20 years or so. I will get some model numbers to be sure.

Yes, I couldn't quite remember the name after seeing it about 2 days ago so I took a guess but you would be right.

Whats about one of those cheap cans of "Engine Greaser"
Could I just spray the block, valve covers and transmition with that and come back in an hour or so and wash it off with the hose?

How much of the 125 amp alt does the engine use?
I plan do install some new speakers, cd player and a low powered 12' sub. (don't worry, I'm not turning it into a rice rocket xD)
I just need to know how many amps I can draw before lights will start dimming.

That 125 amp alternator will work just fine with what you have planned. Just don't go cutting into the stock harness - wire it up like a professional would, with relays and breakers in-line and separate from the rest of the wiring harness. You should be able to pull about 40 amps safely without starting to fry things.

Far as degreasing goes, is it filthy oily all over, or just dirty with a few oil spots around?

I wouldn't, I plan on having a single 4awg wire to power the amp with proper fuse and all and leaving the stock wiring alone except the ignition wire to turn the stereo on when the key is in.

its just dirty from sitting and from oil changes where no one cleaned the split oil when refilling it.

I would imagine I could get alot out of the alt, Im getting 3400 watts out of a 90 amp alt in my moms car with no dimming lights and no major voltage drops. :P

I finally took some pics of my car. I will get pics of the interior later after I vacuum it and clean the leather.

Any tips for fixing the clear coat?

The filter cover was rusted beyond saving the chrome so I sanded all the rust off and painted it with a chrome spray paint
