Anyone know where I can get some door hinge screws for a Stepdown. The ones that fasten the hinge to the door posts.

Pretty much have to get them from another stepdown. I think they are #14 or something odd like that. Bill Albright or anyone with some old stepdowns would have some.

i bought some Allen head style from OSH and some cone shaped lockwashers to go with'em.

The screws are 5/16"UNF. I have in the past bought the 'proper' raised head Philips head variety but they are hard to find.

Counter sunk allen key (or maybe torx drive) screws are the go unless you are doing a 100 point resto. Will be available from any competent bolt supply along with the countersunk star washers.

I have about 75 of the allen head type, where do you want them sent and How many? Too bad you won't be in Pigeon Forge this weekend, I could deliver them to you.....I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist the shameless plug for this weekend....:rolleyes:

I couldn't find anything but flat head screws in McMaster Carr in the proper UNF 5/16-24 size, so I just used them as a source for the countersunk external lock washers, and bought stainless screws in the proper pitch, length, with the domed 'truss' head from Totally Stainless.

I know that the shear strength of these is not equivalent to the original screws, but I haven't had any problems whatsoever using them. I believe these are about equivalent to a grade 2 or 3. They would certainly look perfectly original once you paint over them, even though I left mine unfinished. They look and work great. Plus they'll never rust.

Gardner Westcott has the proper oval-head Phillips style, in stainless and 1" length, for about a buck a shot.

Just to clarify this a little bit. I was able to find both the screw and the lock washer in the Totally Stainless catalog. They are;

5/16-24 x 3/4 Oval Head Machine Screw, P/N 2-3280 ($0.66/ea)

5/16 Countersunk External Tooth Lock Washer, P/N 2-4328 ($0.18/ea)
