starter trouble
-
i have a 1956 buick century 322 v8. i am trying to start the car. you have to turn on key and step on the gas to engage the starter. all i get is a click out of the solaid switch relay. i jumped the starter directly and it turns over. anyone have any ideas??
thanks george -
I will guess that you jumped the Solenoid Switch that is on the starter to get the engine to crank. I will also guess that you do understand the system and know that the Solenoid Switch Relay is a seperate relay that is connected to the accellerator pedal vacumm switch through wiring. If you get a click at that relay you are either getting a bad connection from the relay to the solenoid on the starter or a bad wire.
I would check for voltage with a digital volt ohm meter to see where you are losing the power. You may have a bad relay or just a poor connection in the system.
