79 wagon waking up from 25 year nap.

    I just bought a 79 Chrysler Town & Country wagon and need some suggestions. It has been garaged since 83 and only has 8,000 miles on it. After a few sprays of starter fluid she started right up. Am I right to assume I need to change about every fluid in it? I figure I should drop the fuel tank and clean the lines and replace filters. Is this recommended or can I rely on a product to put in tank to recondition old gas? Im not much of a mechanic so any suggestions would be appriciated. The front brakes seem to be stuck. Thanks in advance!

    I would definitely change the fluids and filters, as a minumum. Your hoses should be in good shape.



    How much gas is in the tank? It would not be a bad idea to at least remove the tank and dispose of whatever fuel is left, then have the tank vatted. As long as things are out, replace the rubber fuel lines coming off the tank, too.



    As for the brakes, I would first do a brake bleed of ALL of the old fluid, then put new in and bleed it. That might solve the front brake problem right there. If not, take the calipers off and have YOUR parts rebuilt at a competent brake shop. DO NOT just go to one of the discount auto parts stores and get a "rebuilt" caliper! Most of those are JUNK and are not worth the time.

    Personally, after 25 years of sitting, I would change every rubber hose on the car, clean and flush the brake system and check the lines for weak spots and replace the flex lines. Change ALL the fluids.
