Essex Crossover Database
-
I've taken a stab at creating a crossover database for all Essex cars using information available from the web and many of Geoff's comments.
If you own an Essex, this is the beginning of what I hope can be a valuable tool.
Please take a look. Make comments. Suggest additions.

This is great. Thanks for all the hard work.

Question - how come you did not include 1932 Essex. The early production "Essex" before the Essex Terraplane was introduced in mid-1932.

No reason not to include the early 1932. I understood '32 to be the start of the Terraplane. Do you have any idea what the serial number sequence would be for that?
-
According to the "Master Chassis Group" Hudson Parts Book 1930-1939 the 1932 Essex production numbers were:
Model E, Essex Pacemaker, starting serial number 1281685, and starting engine number of 1360000
Model EC Essex Standard, starting serial number 1297748, and starting engine number of 1360000
Hope this info helps

if I was restoring mine to stock this would have been a very valuable tool
well done
Mike -
cross reference looks like it will be a great help to me since I just purchased my 28 Essex. I know you explained but just to make sure, if the row is the same color IE green then the part numbers in that row are interchangable with those years.
Thanks

1932 Essex-Terraplane serial numbers:
K Pacemaker - 350,000 to 354,124 - Starting motor # - 5000
It is almost impossible to separate out if there was a Terraplane model in 1932 - I have come across photo's showing a 1932 Terraplane, but have found no data sheets.
I have not been able to come up with either an intro date for the '32 Essex, nor an ending date - same with the '32 Essex-Terraplane.

I'm not sure when Hudson introduced their 1932 line of Hudsons & Essex cars, but I was told by Bill Bade, who was involved in the "Terraplane Drivaway from the Hudson plant - the initial Essex Terraplanes to be shipped - that it was the middle of July 1932 when he made his way thru the busy streets of Detroit on his way back to western New York thru Ontario. Bill was a great HETer, and he had so many tales to tell about the early days with Hudson.
