1939 engine color
-
Greetings,
Can any one tell me the correct engine color for a 1939 112?
Regards

Until someone more knowledgeable jumps in here, I'll hazard a guess that it was silver (as were most Hudson engines of that era).

Silver with black accesories, generator, starter etc etc.

My Uncle (D. Firestone) in West Hartford, CT has a '39 112 Coupe he restored within the last few years. He might have some engine pics. You can find him listed in National Roster. I know he's a stickler for authenticity. Here's a pic of his car.

Here are a couple of reference pic's. ... a '36, but same treatment for any "splasher" up through '52. Two errors show here ... plug wires should be black; fan blades should be silver, same as engine (I changed these things later). An excellent match to the original silver is Duplicolor's 500 degree engine paint, in "Aluminum" color, avail. at NAPA, Pep Boys, etc. Big thing is not to lay it on too heavily ... if you do, the rough cast iron surfaces look too smooth.

Thank you all for the information. There certainly is a wealth of knowledge to be had in this forum.

My very original 1942 Hudson Brougham (14K) original miles on speedo the motor is painted grey, this is the way it was when I imported it from the USA in 1989,this may have had something to do with the war years and they ran out of silver paint.
