timing cover oil spash washer???
-
I am helping a friend change the water pump and timing cover on his mustang, behind the timing cover on the crank shaft is a metal washer sort of loose (I can wobble it around by hand) It looks like the seal housing without the seal part.... is this supposed to be there???
-
yes it is -and it also has a front and back-- -its an oil slinger-- its job is to sling oil away from the front seal and also to help oil the timing chain--
my suggestion -- when you take a motor apart you are not familiar with --take a lot of pictures-- -
Thanks rich, Ive rebuilt a few ford engines but had never seen that splash ring before, my guess is the motors I worked on had that peice discarded.

i hpoe not -- that piece also shims the damper pully to align the belts
