Tight clutch
-
Got the tranny all bolted up to the eight and put a bar in the cross shaft to release the clutch to enter the pilot bearing and sheared the taper pin on the cross shaft. Must have gotten partly sheared when everything was dirty and bound up.
Oh well, gave me a chance to turn the sleeve bearings so the worn part was toward the front.
Chutch seemed awfully tight. I had forgotten to center the finger holders. Hope that was it. Drive dogs seemed free enough. -
VERY IMPORTANT to have the fingers sleeves free, if not, the fingers may not return to their normal position.
-
That happened to me, and the cause was the throwout bearing was upside down.
-
OK Took it apart, the finger channels were not centered, and the throwout bearing may have been rotated a little as it will turn unless spring tension is holding the fingers in contact with it.
Took the cross shaft out, rotated the bushings 180 deg to put the thick part where the shaft pressure is, put a new taper pin in the actuator and put the whole thing back together.
Works like a charm.
