53 Merc. will only idle ?

Flathead will start great , If you give it any gas it falls on its nose ? Had the carb rebuilt & added a electric fuel pump but still falls down ?? Help..

Check Timing, Check Vacume,make sure Carb Pump is pumping enough fuel. -
Sounds like worn 'accelerator pump' in carb... Check by looking down the carb with motor off. You should see a squirt of gas when opening the throttle.
