53 Merc. will only idle ?

I picked up a 53 merc. flat head , It starts fine , when you give it any gas it falls on its nose ? I put a electric fuel pump & had the carb rebuilt ?
I thought it was not getting fuel but I guess not.. Help!!!! -
pluged exhaust ??
