I was going through some old paperwork and came across the original BOS and owners manual for a 1966 Dodge Coronet that my step father bought used for me back in the 80's. I tried to do a vin search to locate this vehicle again, but the vin # only has 13 numbers. Does anyone know of a website where I could do a search for an older vehicle with only 13 numbers? I would love to locate this vehicle again. I remember the guy I sold it to, back in the 80's, for around $400.00 - stupid me!

Sorry I can't help with the information but if you find an answer, please let me know.

Funny thing is, I would love to have my old Dodge back also. Mine was a 66 Corronet 440 with a 383, 4 bbl, 4 speed and Posi. Oh, and a vinyl top. I sold mine in the early 70's but don't remember to whom. Wish I did and wish I could find it.

I sold mine for $600.00 so I will be in the same catagory as you have put yourself.........stupid me

You can go through your state's licensing authority (DMV, or whatever your state calls it) and do what is called a "title search"...BUT...since 9/11, all states have been cracking down on these type of requests, and unless you CURRENTLY own the car (registered and/or titled in YOUR name) and want to track down past ownership history, you will probably get nowhere. This is the requirement in my state, and several others that I know for certain.

The numbers in the VIN do not matter in a search, except for CARFAX and similar searches, which only work on 1980 and newer vehicles, which all have 17-digit VINs.

You can google "dodge coronet registry" and see where that takes you. you can also contact Galen Govier, the Mopar numbers guy. He might have that VIN in his registry. If he does, you will have to pay for the info. It's not free.

Not the answer you wanted, I'm sure, but that is the way things work these days.

BTW, I, too have a '66 Coronet 500 that I am the second owner of, and bought in 1980.

If only we knew then what we know now, eh?

When I was a younger man, I had the chance to get a 57 Chrysler 300 for $50.00 but NOOOOOOOOO, I had to have the 55 Pontiac for $90.00 because it drove and needed no work.

I'd bet there are a million stories like that.

Patrick, you are right, it's almost impossible to get any information any more. Besides that, I don't have the VIN of mine. Looks like I lost.
