55 Ford battery question
-
Our 54 Ford takes a standard 6 volt car battery. It's roughly the same size as the 12 volt you find in modern cars. 12 Volt Batteries have 6 cells, 6 volt batteries have 3 cells, that's about the only physical difference between the two. Check around with different Auto Part stores or find a store that specializes in batteries.

Thanks Roadkill, All the auto parts places and Interstate Battery have 6 volt batteries but the width is 6.88"X 10.5". My original tray is 5.5 " wide. I don't want any battery wider than my tray. I would like to use the original hold-down also. I appreciate your response. Richie. -
Have you tried
Antique Auto Battery
1-800-426-7580
Also, are you sure that the tray you have is the correct one?

Ron, thanks very much for that info. I went to their web site and they have it.G2npp series. 10 1/4 X 5 1/2 X 9, a perfect fit. I'll call them tomorrow. thanks again. Richie. -
You're welcome.
That's what this hobby is all about. Helping each other out.

If you don't mind a funny looking battery, I recommend the Optima 6 volt. I put one in my Hudson two years ago, and it was well worth the extra bucks. It has never failed to start, no matter the weather and no matter how many weeks go by in between starts. - and it's a small battery....

Royer, I have thought about the optima battery and have not ruled it out. I will decide in the next day or two. Not sure I want to deal with having a battery shipped to me dry and buying acid locally and filling the battery. Then dealing with getting rid of the extra acid in a safe way. The optima is looking better now. Thanks for your comment Royer. Richie. -
Not to be a wise guy but, if you put any aftermarket battery in it and go for a judged show, they will deduct points.

Ron, I have three old cars, 55 Victoria, 47 Plymouth and a 50 Hudson. I drive them all and I'm not interested in having them judged as they are daily drivers. I just have fun with them and enjoy the conversations with people asking questions about them. Thanks for your comment, Richie.
