I have a 4 bolt 350 block that I am preparing for my blazer (s10) my question is: Is there any way, short of trying to contact the person I bought it from, to find out what exactly it came out of? This information would be extremely helpful in get parts.

    Here is what I know:

14093638...350...87-95...2 or 4...Roller or flat tappet cam, one-piece rear seal

G081 is the date code 7/08/91

SGI is behind left cylinder this is the one I am trying to figure out

638 on each side of the block dead center

627 with g-7 under it on the front behind the timing cover.

any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks in advance

There should be a VIN number on the block in front of the passenger side head. The VIN would tell you what it came out of...generally.

I see where it is supposed to be but the area is very very pitted I ground a little and got V 0711 and maybe a Z and D. Where can I go to look up this info?

    Thanks

I think I got it all it is V0711UZD but that does not coincide with the known stats . UZD is for a 350 out of a 1981 K1500 pickup but we know it is a 1991 block by casting date and number. So now I am completely confused. :)

    Thanks

The number you have is the Engine ID Code, which decodes as an engine built in Flint Mich, July 11 - 1981 350 con cab, a/t, exp. L LS9 165HP 4BOLT K-10 & 1500

Look to see if the engine has a one piece rear seal like the 1986 and later V-8's have. If its two piece, then I would assume the engine is a rebuilt block perhaps. Your casting number 14093638 shows 1987-92 production, which is confusing as you say to have a 1981 code on it.
