A belated Happy Father's Day to all!

Do you have any 'fathers day' related activities to share?

    Here's mine -
My younger daughter called me about 8:15 AM (before she went to work), wishing me a Happy Father's Day, and letting me know that she would stop by that evening...

Well, about 20 minutes later she called back - crying. Her car wouldn't start, and her boss needed her there for the 'Fathers Day' rush (CheezeCake Factory). Well, after she calmed-down, she was able to borrow her roommate's car & get to work.

I went over to her place, and managed to stretch the jumper cables over the hood of a truck, and they were just long enough to get to her car and get it started. Took me about 5 minutes just to find the latch to open the hood. Empty gas tank- no movement from the gauge, and the warning light is on, solid. Took off with the car, to put some gas in it.
Got to the gas station, got it filled & kept car running ($75 + change fill-up - it takes premium, of course  ). And as got ready to drive away, car died - would not start. Yep, you're RIGHT - I left the jumper cables in MY car...

Took Lily for a walk (did I mention I had taken our little mutt with me?), while trying to get in contact with someone who could help me. Just happened to see & flag down a passing county policeman - he had a set of jumper cables, and was very willing to help. Got it started, but it quit again... (too many gadgets running in this fully decked-out Nissan Maxima). Shut off whatever I could (?), and we re-jumped the car. This time it stayed running, and I was able to get it back to her house - parking it so that it would be easier to work-on or get jumped.

Went back home, dropped off 'Lily' and got my tools. Went to CostCo and bought a battery, drove back to my daughter's place & put the new battery in.

Went back home, and 'mellowed out' for the remainder of the afternoon. Daughter stopped by and gave me a big kiss, 'thank you', and a Fathers Day card. (No $$ exchanged hands - not really expected. ;) )

Not a normal "Fathers Day" but a relatively typical father's day... If you know what I mean.

P.S. Believe it or not, it cost less for the battery than it did to fill the tank with gas!

Not a "dull" Father's Day for you Rick! lol In the morning we went out for breakfast at the nearby Ihop (I like to go out for breakfast occasionally). When there, I got 3 cards, one from my wonderful wife, one from my son, and even one from the dog! The rest of the day, I played with my son's Hot Wheels track and watched TV. It is too hot to do anything outside (110degrees)! My neuropathy is getting worse, so I started uping my dosage of Neurotin, which also tends to make you sleepy, so I slept on and off during the day.

Not a remarkable Fathers Day, but when I step back and look at my family, I am forever grateful for them. And my boy is growing up so fast, a true hot rodder and a smart boy. I love him more than I can put into words. I am truly thankful for every Father's Day I get!

I spent the first half of Fathers Day on the road. Left Fairborn, Ohio and the 2008 Central Regional at 4:30 am and took our time coming back to Newport, TN. Stopped in Caryville, TN for breakfast at Shoney's then came on to Newport by 11:00. My old Jeep Grand Cherokee now shows 205,250 miles on the odometer. No trouble up or back and averaged 20.5 miles per gallon.
Got home and kicked my shoes off and went to bed. I was TIRED!

As a shameless Northerner, I still remember my first encounter with Shoneys, in Tennessee. A toothsome young lady was ladling a white kind-of mush into a container on the steam table, and I asked, "What's that"? She replied, with one of your most dazzling smiles, "Why, them's grits, honey, where you'all from?" Turns out my idea of "grits", the big white embalmed corn kernals, was "hominy grits" in the south- My bad, point well taken. She was the kind of southern lass that I didn't care much what she said, as long as she said it to me. . .

My Father's Day was quite with every one still a little sad that mother has just left for the war overseas (back in 400 days).

But both kids still at home told me Happy Father's Day when they got up. My oldest called my fron Indianapolis and also wished me a good day.

I was also taken out for dinner and a movie at a local theater that serves food during the movie. They took out every other row of seats and put in long, bar-like tables. For $30, you get two decent sandwiches, chips, and unlimited soda and popcorn and two movie tickets.
