spark plug setting

I put points and plugs in my 40 hudson. I set the plugs at .032 according to the manual that came with the car in 1940. Later I was looking through my Chiltons book and it said the plugs should be .038. Should I leave them at .032 or change them to .038? Thats quite a bit of difference. I'm driving to Albq. next week and want to make sure I have them set right.

    THanks for the help

Stan, .038 sounds wide for a factory ignition system. I'd stick with .032 unless you're running something like a Pertronix ignition with a performance coil.

Thanks for the reply. I thought .038 sounded wide. I will stick with .032, belive me I have nothing to enhance the performance . Stock as it should be.

    Thanks

    The correct setting is .032.
