46 Dodge generator to alternator conversion
-
Does anyone have a wiring drawing for a 6 volt generator to a 12 volt alternator change. I can do the mechanics and custom brackets but the wiring is challenging for me. I understand the positive ground to negative ground somewhat and switch the wires on the ammeter but that’s it for me. Any help would be appriecated. Thank you

couple things to bear in mind--alt will not operate an ameter, must use a VOLT meter. Most alt have a built in regulator but you need to know what you have. There are single wire alt and 2 wire. Best to use the 2 wire, hooking up a single wire sounds simple but gets quite complicated when connecting it to the volt meter. Then you have to put resistors on all of your 6 volt eguipement. So with these things in mind you'll need to provide more info on the parts your useing, then there are a number of guys on here can take you thru it . Bud

Considering that the vehicle is 62 years old, are you sure that you trust all of the old wiring? Perhaps this is the time to think about a rewire project to insure that all is up to par. The commonly available kits are pretty impressive. Suggest looking at 'RebelWire'.
