47 C8 Heater Control Valve

The heater control valve coming out of the head on the 47 seems to be stuck in the high heat position. The slider is working at the valve but the water flow is not regulating. I would like to rebuild it myself. Before I jump in, anyone had success with repairing these valves and would provide some advise. I contacted a couple rebuilders, one from the WTN, and they only wanted to do the Ronco valves from the stepdowns. Summer cruising would be alot more enjoyable without the hot air blast! Thanks!

The reason is that Ranco valves are only in the 48 on Hudson cars-not before. You can't rebuild something if it's not on that model . What you are looking for is a pre Ranco head valve . The quickest fix is just go to NAPA and get an in line manual shut off valve put it in between the head valve and the heater intake line.

Is this heater control valve Vacuum Controlled or Cable Controlled?

This valve is cable controlled not vacuum. Slider moves freely at the valve when working the cable control but does not change the temp. Thanks.

I suspect that the valve is frozen and the slider has broke loose from the valve. Try removing the valve and see if you can free up the valve with some rust penetrant. If you can free it up you may be able reattact the valve to the slider. If the valve cannot be repaired, you could use an inline valve like offered by this company.

You maybe able to use these valves on Ebay.

Here is some further infomation. The Ebay AMC valve is Four Seasons 74682 and it's a 5/8" hose with 3/8" NPT thread. It is a "Pull-To-Close" valve. The International valve is Four Seasons 74648 and it's a 5/8" hose with 3/8" NPT thread. It is a "Pull-To-Open" valve. You can get a 5/8" hose inline valve from NAPA under BK 6601140 or Four Seasons 74628. This is a "Pull-To-Open" valve.
