1939 LaSalle - Need to find VIN
-
I'm working to restore a 1939 LaSalle, problem right now is I have no paperwork on the car and cannot find the VIN number. I read somewhere else online that the VIN is either on the driver's side frame rail by the upper control arm, or behind the motor, but I can't seem to spot it (those locations were for a '37).
The style code for the car is 38-5027 and the body number is 845.
Anyone have a clue where the VIN is hiding?
Thanks,
PT -
According to the Standard Catalog of American Cars, the 38-5027 is a 1938 coupe 2- passenger. For the 38, the vin number is the same as the engine number and they start at 2270001 and end at 2285501. The number is on the left frame side bar at the rear of the left front motor support.
For 39, the number is located on the left frame side bar opposite the steering gear. the numbers start at 2290001 and end at 2313028. The engine number is located on the crankcase behind the left cylinder block parallel to the dash. The 5027 is the same for 39 as the 38. It gives no reference to 845.
Hope this helps
Ron
