The car looks to be very clean, then you look at the dirty engine compartment. Something doesn't add up there.

Maybe the guy just hasn't detailed the engine compartment yet. I don't do any of that until after a paint job, other than a good engine cleaning. The detail work comes after paint. Why get overspray over a freshly detailed engine, when it's usually easier to do the engine detailing after the paint job!!
The pictures are definitely California, unless NY has suddenly sprouted palm trees from all of that "Gorebal Warming" going on. I'd have to see proof the car is in NY before bidding. Personally, I wouldn't be leaning over newly painted fenders to detail the engine compartment.
Maybe the seller is using pics from when he bought the car or it's a scam. -

I still say no one should ever buy a car on E-Bay unless you or someone you trust can go and do the touchy-feely thing (with the car, that is) and then meet the seller face to face. Even in our fast-paced modern world, lots can be determined in being there that just cannot be achieved long-distance. I bought a car on E-Bay, but only after I went and checked it out and met the owner one on one. The car does look clean enough and the price is good enough that you should definately follow up on it . . . but do it wisely!!

Not really in a position to buy another car right now, just thought a car that looked that clean would have a higher "BIN".
Now, if I could find a Hudson Metropolitan with a modern DOHC powerplant and a 5 or 6 speed, I could get rid of my Chevy Cobalt and have an interesting daily driver.1953 Hornet sedan Twin-H

Trunk looks pretty rusted up and it looks like the undercoating has been removed in places and painted. It also looks like the hood has rust issues. I'm guessing there is a lot of rust hidden under that new paint job. I'm hoping he gets his asking price, that means my Hornet will sell much better than I thought.

He takes pay pal ,and cash in person , arent you protected if you use pay pal from a credit card ?- , doubt its a scam but like was said , it needs inspected , there are some awful cars that look good in pics.

I've bought six cars and trucks on ebay and never ahd a problem - sold six, as well. It's like anything - go with your gut if you can't get it inspected. If it doesn't feel, smell, or look right, don't buy it!
Inspections are cheap insurance - most reputable inspection companies charge around $300 - $400; this includes a detailed 5 to 6-page report on everything about the car, plus as many photos as the inspector cares to take, with a minimum of 40 photos. I do this type of inspection for a company in CT. I average about four cars/year in OK that I inspect for them, and they really like and appreciate my work for them. Inspectors work for the buyer as a separate third-party. I've spent as long as three hours inspecting a vehicle. An inspectors' job is not to appraise/determine value, it's simply to inspect and drive, then report to the inspection company, who then reports the results to the potential buyer. As the inspector, I could care less what the asking price is; frankly, it's none of my business. The seller is not shown the results of the inspection.

Thanks for the reply.* I asked because I had a car inspected there a few years back.* In addition to the inspector's report and photos showing the car to be more of a dog than the sellers disclosed, the ancient sellers were the cheapest, most stubborn people on the face of God's earth.* Needless to say, I passed on that and was glad to have made the investment in a good inspector. Better to spend hundreds than to lose thousands.

The rust doesn't look too bad from the underneath shots - especially if its been a eastern car.
The exterior shots I can see the lower doors fenders quarters llok like they might be full of mud, I say that because of the way the panels fit it just looks like there were quick rust out fixes and a coat of paint applied to shine her up...I'd say "looks someone put some liptstick on a pig" - but I don't consider any Hudsons to be pigs...Right now I'd say it looks more like a diamond in a goats @rse (it's just a turn of phrase folks ~ going for a laugh ~ please don't take it personal
)
I think even if it's rusty if you can get it at a reasonable price and it runs and drives who really cares?
A driver would be worth the parts alone I'd imagine at the right price.
