Replaceing stainless trim clips idea
-
I am polishing the stainless trim on our 53 Chieftain and found that some of the clips were either broke or I broke the clip on the removal process.
Unable to find the exact ones I needed easily, as it seems every piece of trim uses a different clip, ( some pieces use 3 different types!) I am useing nylon / poly screws.
Fasnal had a large head ( elevator bolts) I just grind off opposite sides of the head to fit the trim channels, and slide into place to match the mounting holes in the body.
I have used these even where a spring loaded type clip was originally used if I can get to the back side of the body part to put the nut on the stud.
I am using the original clips for places I don't have access to screw on a nut.
I am putting a small neoprene washer on the outside just to try to seal the hole to prevent water getting inside the door, etc and creating rust around the hole.
You may already know about this, but I thought I would pass it on as I have found it works very well.
