351C needs help
-
i have a 1970 torino with a 351C 4V and it used to blow oil. I rebuilt the top end and threw on a fresh intake and carb with new fuel pump and fuel lines. The car ran great for a while and quit. I eventually got it to run with a new battery, coil, and distributor. The car currently pops and spits through the carb when given throttle, but runs ok in idle. Any ideas or suggestions? Anything else electrical other than spark plug wires?
also- is it normal that the oil pressure drops to almost nothing (around 5psi) when really warmed up. -
thanks for the help, I'll keep coming back to this site for more help in the future. It was a real life saver.

Sounds like maybe when you did the work someplace in there you now have a vacuum leak. Re-trace your steps and you may find the solution.

Sounds to me like multiple problems. First off 5 psi of oil pressure is not enough, (hot or not) it should probably run 20-30 psi hot at idle and higher cold. As far as the running, (you didn't say what you did when you "rebuilt" the top end) it could be a jumped timing chain, bad camshaft, something out of place when the engine was reassembled, head gasket, etc. I doubt it's a vacuum leak. Why did you have to replace the distributor?? Maybe the timing is way off. So many things that could be wrong, but what ever the running problem is that motor is on it's way out with only 5 psi. Sorry if this wasn't enough help.

thanks, I think i'll take the motor out and do a complete rebuild.
i suspected that 5 psi wasn't good b/c it will stay that way even if i fix the likely timing problem.
who knows, mabey my 460 w/C6 could do this car some justice...
-any suggestions on this or leave it as a 351C car?
