Gears not shifting on 1965 Dodge Coronet
-
Hi All,
I have inherited a 1965 Dodge Coronet from a close friend which has not been driven for about 9 months.
It has been started every few weeks. The fluids are full.
The car does have a transmission fluid leak. (I tried to write some notes before my friend passed away).
Today, I pulled the car out to check the fluid levels and run the car around the neighborhood....it will be put on a transport to move cross country and I need to make sure it runs OK.
The car acts as if is not shifting into higher gears....the car will not go very fast. I hear the racing noise as if you were in neutral. There is a jerky movement....it seems the car wants to shift but something is slipping or keeping it from going to a higher gear.
A friend thinks the rubber in the transmission (seals?) have gotten hard and that I need to put in a can of something called Trans-X to help the gears shift.
I need to get this solved (hopefully) in the next 2-3 days as the transport company is coming early next week to pick the car up and it needs to be able to drive to get it on and off the transport.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Carl
