1950 Dodge Coronet

I have a 1950 Dodge Coronet Flathead 6, with a gyromatic transmission. Have had the car running, and runs like a top, however the last time we drove it the same, except that after we backed it into the garage, and went to start it up a couple of hours later, it seemed to turn over faster than before. The crank turns withthe starter, but fails to start. It appears to have lost compression? I can turn the crank by hand, and can hear a chain sound. I didn't hear sounds of any kind when shutting the car off. Does anyone have any ideas? We have the shop manual for it, but it doesn't seem to cover this.

    Thanks! Sheryl

I would guess that the first thing you would want to do is verify that you do have compression. Pull the plugs and do a compression check on the engine. At least that way you will get an idea of the integrity of the engine.
