I can't answer your question but I did go to his shop the begining of Feb. Saw a lot of his work there, had a tour with a group I belong to. Some of the cars on display look great at 10 but when you got close you could see problems starting through the paint and bright work. Yes there are some of the customer cars in back that had extra attention and looked wonderful, but there were those where you could see a rush job.
I'm with you Dermott, RIP Boyd. -
This is hard to understand. One of the top hot rodders in the last three decades dies, we trash him and then say "RIP" as if that ment that everything was ok and that we have a right to trash him. I cannot understand what would cause us to have so little respect for one of the greats... JMHO...Brownie

Brownie, I think people expect Icons to be perfect. I don't know anyone who is and I know very few in business that can afford to be perfect. The busier they get the more people they have to hire to help and the more short-cuts get taken. I watched Boyds show also and you could see where his shop turned out some beautiful work. I just don't think everyone who took their car to his shop though wanted to pay for that quality of work, just my guess. I'm not tearing down his work, I've never seen any of his work up close so I can't judge it, I'm just commenting on why people might be making critical statements while saying RIP.
Harry
