First time for me, i purchased a Ratrod that is suppose to have a 1955 265 V8 the number on the motor is either 0I20225F55FB or 0T20225F55FB there is no oil filter and the engine mounts from the front. It runs great and is said to be rebuilt, i would like to know what it is worth. Any help?

Don't know what it's worth but it's definitely a 55 Block. The other tip off is the road draft tube goes thru the rear of the block in front of the flywheel. It would be in the way of the full flow oil filter.

Engine value, like so many other things in this industry is very difficult to say. I would think that if you are looking to get rid off the engine, get all the numbers and any iformation on this engine that you can. Date codes are very important to many people and that may help you to get your best dollar.

Check with the guys on chevytalk.com as you may find someone there looking to put a car together with all the correct numbers.

Best of luck with your engine.

WHOA and holsie da horses here. Stop in your tracks

Be verrrry careful with the 55 v-8 engine. Find the casting dates on the major components. The 55 v-8's started getting cast in mid 1953 and are essential to the correct restoration of early production 55 chevies and vettes! I have seen staggered valve cover bolt hole heads cast as early as 11/53 personally! If you can verify a pre 55 casting (born on date) the value of your 265 just went through the roof. And flash, guess what, there are also a few 283's known to exist prior to 55!
