Help for a new Packard owner.
-
I'm enjoying my '37- 1500 Super Eight, 4 dr. sdn. I wish to change headlight bulbs but have been unable to remove the lenses. I read the directions in the operators manual but feel stupid in that after turning the head screw counter-clockwise until there is resistance, the lenses still don't move. Anyone that can offer help on what seems should be a simple task would be most appreciated... Thanks.

I don't have a Packard but another make of 1937. I wonder if by any chance your lenses come out the same way mine do? In mine, you back off the screw (which is on the underside of the shell at the 6:00 position) until it drops down about 3/8" (indicating it has disengaged from the lens retainer). It's then necessary to push the lower part of the lens inward and downward, which frees the upper edge of the lens. This can then be eased outward from the shell, and the entire lens slid out. It's not an easy process and if you don't watch you, you'll drop the lens and break it. That's why I always place a blanket on the fender and front bumper under the light when performing this operation.
Of course your lens may very well come out in some different manner. -
I believe they are called Doorless headlights. Try what Jon said.
