Let's have a poll....
-
Okay, Paul got me thinking, Maybe I can be president of the Hudson Essex Terraplane club one day.... Why not.... my pops taught me that only I set my own limits. I would hate to think that I could not reach my goals, if I set them to something like that someday.
Besides, all you old farts are gonna kick the bucket sooner or later, and someone's gonna have to steer the ship, likely, it will be me, Jsrail, and Rambos, so you're all in trouble!
So anyway, here you go, take the shots as you please, this forum could use some lightening up.... you can virtual vote, for FUN, nothing else. And feel free to comment, if you like, just keep it nice, I might get my feelings hurt.
-
Hey, Hey, don't forget me! I just signed on as your campaign manager.
-
Yeah, what the hell, I'll vote for ya!
...now, how many times can we vote? And where are the kickbacks coming from? I need a bribe!
A Hudson in every garage! A Twin-H under every hood!
No way! I'M the campaign manger!"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
Paul's probably right, I doubt that anyone will ever really allow me to be president of the HET club. However, I bet I would do the best I could, if I ever was. It was kind of one of those outlandish statements that I make on occasion. I guess there are worse alternatives, not sure who, but heck, it's all good fun.
-
Way! I voted first. Would you settle for the position of Spin Doctor?
-
I'll take the office of Minister of Horsepower, however!
Kid, events have been shaped by such statements. If HET is to truly change for the better, guys like us have to take the reigns and drive the team. Or, just wait..."The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
hey, vote early, and often. I doubt Lew or Jon B will allow this thread to be here in the AM. at least it is not super offensive, so perhaps ClassicCars will let me off with a light warning.
I'm just figuring one day, I'll be banned altogether, so it will be up to you guys to avenge me!
I really think we need a fun post like this once in a while, especially since the board is so split right now. -
This thread is no worse than any other. If you are serious about seeking a position in the club, once you are a member, start out slow. Work your way up the ladder and one day you'll reach the top. I'm not at all worried about how people perceive you. After all, the board of directors will reign you in if/when you get out of control.

Is this some sort of premonition? do you think I ever would need reigned in?
geez.
I got to agree, I really think that would be the approach to working towards the level of HET club leadership.
I know in reality, I will never be, but from those that know me on the forum, I bet they would find in interesting, to say the least.
Check out how I voted.... -
I hope this virtual vote gets me pretend elected, I got a terrific thank you speech prepared.
thanks, Ray!
I wonder how "TPG" is gonna vote?
if it gets taken down, 'll still post my thank you speech! -
I think the HET club and the board is still predominately a mix of seniors and older Boomers. You may have another 20 years or so before they're going to be ready for a "Generation X'er"
I couldn't find a copy of the by-laws, but the president may be elected by the BOD rather than membership which is common. I don't know about the HET club.
So.....maybe a write-in campaign is necessary to get you on the Board of Directors as a first step, or start on the local level in one of the regionals or locals clubs.
Being on a BOD, while quite an honor, requires a tremendous amount work behind the scenes that often goes unnoticed. I'm sure the Board members do not have as much fun at the national meets as the attending members as they resolve problems and work out the logistics. But, They should also be forward thinking and continue to look how technology can benefit the club. They need to be receptive to new ideas and have the ability to resolve conflict and not create it. When there's a problem they have to have the strength to take corrective action and do what's best even if it involves one of there good buddies. I also noticed on the HET website there's a LINK to the Classiccar Forum, so they do make the HET membership aware of (certainly in my opinion) one of the best forums on the internet
Good Luck in your campaign, Hudsonkid, and get that HET membership started so you can get your own copy of the WTN -
I think what's funny is there are so many forum members out there that want to either reply to this thread, or vote, but conventional wisdom tell them not to. If nothing else, perhaps it shifted the mood of the forum a bit. We were heading to bad times there, and maybe, just maybe, I made it better for a while.
-
I would vote, but don't see an appropriate selection...
As HudsonDad indicated, joining the club (and getting your own WTN
:D ) is the first step.
Second, joining the local chapter and becoming involved with the management of it could be seen as a 'stepping stone' toward a national office/position.
You never know - running a car club may not be your 'cup of tea', but finding that out after you become president would not be good for either you or the club... -
"HudsonKid", I don't see any representation on the HET National Board of Directors from the Mid Atlantic states. Also if the HET website is up to date, They have a vacancy for president of the Chesapeake Bay Chapter. Since You and Lew Bonded so well at Doc's meet this past year, He could give you a strong recommendation/nomination!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's a start!
-
yeah, BOD spot would be sweet. thanks for the FYI, hudsondad!
I could have shirts made up that say
"This time it's hudson...kid"
wow...
It might make people come out of the woodwork and run for BOD just to make sure I don't get elected. But I guess there are worse things that could happen, like having someone on the board that didn't care enough to make a difference. With that said, is my over exuberance a bad thing? -

It's not my opinion that you would need to be reigned in. After all, I'm not a member of the OFC.
Although we've had our differences, I think I know you well enough to say you're a good guy, one who is truely interested in furthering interest in Hudson built cars. Unfortunately, there will always be people who misunderstand what you and others say. However, I think that anyone who will take the time to converse with you, one on one, will change their opinions. I applaud your tenacity in the face of adversity. -

thanks for the kind word, Dave. I appreciate any comments from people that are based in reality.
Seems so far, the dissenters in my polling are all non stepdown folks, anyway. I figured if I were president of the HET club, I would make it primarily a stepdown club anyway, and kick all those folks out...
Oh geez you guys, just kidding... lighten up...
I like all hudsons, just only ever had stepdown experiences, so far, who knows....
I appreciate the fact that those of you who would vote no, posted up. Honesty, is the best policy, and I appreciate that. -

You're welcome HK. Just in case it needs to be said, my opinion of you is based upon taking the time to get to know you and your sense of humor. As for the HK haters...talk about the pots calling the kettle black. I'll never understand what, if anything, goes on in the mind of people who feel it is there right to lash out without first making an effort to contact a member to get the facts straight. Although I've never set out to hurt, insult or offend anyone here, I've gotten my fair share of crap here too. I'll even admit that I may have responded without thinking. However, none of us should be rude or dismissive, ignoring people or insulting them and then acting childish by refusing to appologize for acting out of unjustified anger. I say before any of us consider being rude to a fellow CCF forum member, HET member or Hudson owner, stop and think. Contact the person via a PM and discuss it between yourselves. Then, hopefully, a seperate section such as this won't be needed. Now back to your regular programing...
-
Dave, stop it, you are making perfectly good sense here! Isn't that forbidden?
"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
Oops, I though I could get away with it...must be the O.F. syndrome kicking in.
-
Thank you site ADMIN for a vote of confidence.
-
I doubt that this is a campain speach, but if so, I would have expected some serious indicitation of why you would want to lead this club. I would expect to see something you have done in the past that would lead me to consider if you were a serious contender. And, I would like to have some way to gage what your presidency would do to improve or destroy our organization. You prize yourself to be an outsider and against most of what has been done to build this organization--so other than point fingers, tell us when you were last a chapter president, organized a Hudson car meet, served on a national committee that sought and achieved change and so on. I would hate to think that we were jumping in to support your presidency just on your good looks. If not serious, I love the humor........Brownie
-
I am in no way qualified to be president of the HET club. today, tomorrow, but who knows, someday, maybe my work and dedication to the causes I believe in, for the club, may make me a worthy candidate. The big problem is that too many people take this too serious, and can't see my light humor here. I would think that if I had a valid record that would support me as worthy to ever be a candidate, then yes, I would think I could do a good job. However, I bet many presidents past will tell you it is not a fun job, and is likely a thankless job that requires more effort that I can put forth at this station in life. Really, what it comes down to, is it's almost funny, when all you guys know me, and how I am, just to think that I could ever find myself in this role, no one should take this serious. What's funny is, I get all the folks on here that want to cry about polls, buy if you look in the past, I've had my share of really good polls. They can't all be winners. Oh well... maybe 2008 will be better!
-
BTW, this poll closes on the 4th. Please vote if you have not. Seems i'm doing half decent. Thank you to all who voted, even if you did not vote for me. I think I need to pickup the middle of the road guys, the rodder/restore guys.

I think you need to make a campaign statement on where you stand on rod or restore. This will demonstrate your ability as a politician to make each side understand that they each have your support and can co-exist. Make it a win-win and show you can resolve conflict. After all, These are ALL car guys and they have to be able to appreciate each others efforts when the results are well done.
Get a couple of those "undecided" votes to swing your way! -
I haven't received my support kickbacks yet, Kid! Man,. bribery just isn't what it used to be!
"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,

Think ole HOOPITY been arunnin throo round in hear with a big ole hole in his buckit. Must be alookin fer snakity Pete and gonna rescue him.
-
Well Kid, just a few friendly words of advice, from the present HET Club Prez
1. You have to be a member of the HET Club to be President - have you joined as you said you would?
2. I do not know of a President who has been elected, except our founder Merritt Marks, that did not serve on the board before being elected to office. You may want to consider running for the board, if you are a member. Board members are elected by HET Club members in their region.
3. If you have decided to bypass the traditional method, and run for president without serving on the board, how do you plan to learn how the club operates?
4. To become president of the HET Club one only needs the majority of votes of the board of directors of the HET Club.
5. Have you ever read the club by laws? Your comments don't indicate that you have.
Good luck, I look forward to watching this as it will be very entertaining, if nothing else.

Young feller, I wanna no watt cher bale out an parts reebaites plans are, yah'al aint agittin my word fur nothin but a bunch of hot air an fancy talkin !!

I wonder how this post came around to the top again, that is strange.
I have been fairly absent from the forum, for almost the past better half of the year, pursuing other projects and interests, work, family, etc... have kept me away, much to the satisfaction of numerous board members here, to be sure. Feel safe, I will likely be similarly absent in the future as well.
Anyhow, in reply, I decided that my HET club membership from the time about last year I made this post, and even again today, after reading this once again, is still not for me.
I don't have interest serving as club president, or serving on the board, either. I guess it would be tough for me to do either of those, when I can't even bring myself to join the club. I still have a stamped envelope, with an enclosed check, and application for membership sitting right here from over a year ago.
I appauld the continued success of the club, and the enjoyment the members receive from being part of it, and commend the job the editors that publish the WTN do on that. I commend the membership on it's vast amount of pride that it takes in the club, and being part of the club.
I appreciated the communication and the couple of coorespondences that Mike Cherry offered towards me, and viewing this present post, I guess that's gone.
I applaud the efforts that have been put forth to achieve what I commented in previous posts as areas that the club could do better with, such as the on line store, that have actually occurred.
It makes me happy to see that perhaps, by chance, my comments were actually being heard by a few.
I enjoy the opportunity I get to meet with, interract with, and even on occassion, help other members of the HET club, many times on this forum, sometimes outside the realm of the internet, and appreciate all the time and effort they put forth to assist me in my hudson endeavors.
I guess what it comes down to, there are always going to be those that ultimately decide not to belong, or join. I even had multiple people come forth and say they would pay my membership dues for me to join, which is an appreciated extension of gratitude, and shows what a great bunch the majority of the club is, in their hospitality and kindness.
I guess in the end, you all have to figure out what it is that just keeps a select few out.
Maybe as I progress in age, reach different stations in my life, the appeal and desire to join will coincide.
Take care guys, I had a nice time stopping by again.
Hudsonkid
Oh and just to think... Imagine if this whole bail out thing was conceivable back in the 50's who knows, maybe Packard, Nash, Hudson, and Studebaker would be around today.
EDIT: one more thing, I just looked at the poll results, which made me chuckle, I guess I didn't do terribly bad, anyhow, FWIW, that for those that were supportive of my previous light humor fun.
take care. -
HK,I always like to view your responses and the different prospective that you have shown in many, many of your post and comments. Please don't be a stranger here. Hopefully see ya soon
-
HK... while I did not vote, I am willing to comment.
Being president of an organization should not require any form of experience... why just look at the last election for the leadership of our country! That aside, having been the CEO and president of a successful company I know the experience one brings to any leadership position is usually very centric and focused. To be successful... you MUST be able to see change as good and change to meet the needs of the constituency. If you do not those you are to lead will no longer follow or lose interest in what the club or business stands for. Antique cars, be they Hudsons or.... are an extension of the owner's interests and ego. Clubs are meant to help maintain that interest and sometimes ego... the Hudson club was founded to help folks maintain and keep these cars running. This is what drew me to the club. Unfortunately, some missed that original point. So, others like me continue to drive our cars, and enjoy them with or without club affiliation.
Thanks for your support HK. Hope you and the family have a great 2009 and you get to enjoy your Hudson too.
