OK, what is the point? I don't get it? In your own way everyone contributes. No matter if it is here on this forum or in the club everyone takes something away and contributes something. Even if you don't think you have a voice (or not as large a voice as you would like) you contribute by getting people to think... and that is not the point of a club or forum. If you are willing to support this with your membership great, if not that is your decision. Just respect the various points of view and be civil, is all that is asked no matter what camp you are in. I get a great deal out of both places, the forum which is free and the club. I do not always participate as I should or as often as I like. That said one last thing, if you have given one piece of advice or one bit of encuragement you have advanced the Hudson cause, club or not and is that not the point.

Jay,the various points of view,I believe is respected! The only problem with someone's viewpoint/criticism is implementation. If you look at some of the other Clubs and the problems they have and the problems they generate,IMHO,are because there are to many Chiefs and not enough Indians!! This can be applied here just the same!! I have been the past President of the Sou.Ind.Chapter for about 10 years.I have been to almost every Presidents meeting, held at the National each year, and membership, youth, and change have come up in at least the last 5 that I have been in!!! I think your quote about"I do not always participate as I should or as often as I like"speaks for alot of us,myself included!! In a different thread currently on the Forum,it talks about the age of our club. These longtime Club members are set in there ways and ARE from a different time. They don't necessarily want to stay the same or status as usual, but their ability is limited, and the ones that have much better computer skills are spread too thin. This puts the burden on those who ARE computer literate, usually younger,AND raising a family, busy with work/career or just too busy for any other things of need in their lives. To contribute the necessary time to make the BIG changes WE ALL need to send to the HET Club president and the B.O.D. our ideas, and still keep in mind that the club is all volunteer and dues are a set amount.Making it TOO complicated and costly,TAKES OUT THE FUN.If those of us that have great ideas don't get the right answers from the Pres or BOD,then we as a body should vote them out!!! Pointing fingers about what someone should do,without giving their idea enough time to write it down, submit it and have a vote on it,is B.S.If someone has a great idea, about the Club,it takes them to be a member to submit their idea-FIRST-That is the By-laws,as currently written[By-laws,every club has these!!!].Lets face it,we all have wasted plenty more then the $25.00 in a day/week,so why don't some send in their dues,AT LEAST ONCE,voice their opinion and IDEAS,and see if we can make this problem of the club being old and ageing, make an upswing of ideas that will bring it into the 21st.century.A post from the past that comes to mind in Ra-bo's ride.He has posted here quite frequently, has spoke about helping the 21st.century problem with computer online services and was ignored or canceled out as a problem. If it takes a few $$$ to have him set-up a program that addresses so many things that would benefit the club,so be it.I'm sure that he will continue to donate countless hours of work, over and above his fee! You must be a member to have a voice in the club.I will also state that if you DON'T want to be a member of the HET club, and want to contribute, please make your comments and suggestions positive, something we can use!!! KIND OF WHAT THE FORUM IS ALL ABOUT!!!!!!:)

well said clutch guy, don't you sleep?

anyway, I hope that everyone reads this, and find the message that clutch guy is putting forth here. Really, all the complaining we have done, those of us that are not members, let's all just join, and drive for change? I really think that this is more productive than any of our previous efforts. I really think that all of us have good ideas, we need to get those ideas out there, if those that are in positions do not want to be receptive of those ideas, then we need to fix that problem, and get people in those spots that will foster the change we think that needs to occur.

At the same time that we need to cater to the younger generation, let us not forget, we need to recognize the older generation as well. That's the biggest problem facing any organization today, is how to meld these two facets of society together. That's the real problem to solve.

maybe I would be a good president of the HET club, someday.....

Well, here is another opinion. Yes our club is aging and getting younger at the same time. Read the next Driver's Side column in the July WTN and you will understand. We are aging and we are getting younger and there are major changes coming to the club, if the board approves....and I think they will.

To those that think this club does not change and is aging - you ain't seen nothing yet.

Yes, maybe you would be a good president of the HET Club, someday. You are beginning to sound like it. The best way and the first step, run for the HET Club board of directors.

    Kid, keep on keepin on!

Personally, this is a stellar endorsement! :D

I hope it doesn't stand in your way of being re-elected someday, but it is nice to see someone appreciate me for being me... I appreciate your support and kindness, Mike. you are a real asset to the club.

Sorry to all that have missed me the last couple of weeks. I have been real busy with work, and things around the house.

I need to finish getting parts packed to ship to a hudson doctor in Indiana, and other things, but I'm still here, and around.

I also was sorta "told" to perhaps take it easy here and around, so I figured I needed to stay away for a bit... I guess not everyone appreciates the kid.

I forgot about this thread, but it does ephasize a lot of key ideas, and is still valid, and worth consideration.

If I get a chance, maybe I'll post a few pictures of the 50, and show everyone the progress (or lack there of) I made thus far.

Hudsondad is now amongst the retirees group, and will have lots of spare time to work on my hudson (and maybe his) too...

    Best!

This is a great thread. Mike, I am looking forward to see what the club has planned for the future and I am glad you have been exposed to this forum. This forum could be made to be a major tool for the HET member.

Here are some very general observations that I feel the club needs to consider:

    1. "Doc Hudson" and the movie "Cars". This movie is the biggest Hudson exposure / promotion ever to happen. We now have 7 year olds coming up to us and goggling our cars. EVERYONE knows Doc Hudson. The club should capitalize on this- work with Disneyland. They have a "Cars" ride / attraction underconstruction. Great promo opportunity. Disney and Pixar have people that do this stuff for a living. Let's talk to them.

    2. Nascar- With the Nascar history, Hudson should be all over the place with the Nascar crowd. Lots of wealthy sponsors out there. Maybe a traveling display with one of the current cars and drivers on the circuit? What current race car and driver wouldn't want to be seen next to a former three time Nascar champion, a 51 Hornet Coupe? Where is Budweiser? I'll lend the 51 Hornet Coupe!

    3. Car Shows- Seems like many HET members want to meet in out of the way spots? Get togethers, HET events, where at all possible, should all be held in popular areas. Exposure is everything. Hold the National in conjunction with another popular Marque= Twice the exposure. Or atleast hold it during the same time and place as a large car event such as "Hot August Nights" in Reno. There are lots of major opportunities like this.

I know this is all nothing new but growth revolves around exposure and location, location, location. Niels

AACA's Driver Participation Class is an opportunity to get a "nice driver" in an AACA meet, where there are lots of car buffs but where few have any familiarity with Hudson-built cars.
