Tranny to a pontiac flathead 8
-
Hello
I have a 53 pontiac with a straight 8 flathead and a 2 speed automatic. I am thinking of converting it to a manual 4 speed. Does anyone know what kinds and years of bellhousings would bolt up to the block? Any tranny suggestions? All help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Sounds like you got one of the cars that was built after the hydramatic plant fire, they put Powerglides in them for a short time. If you have access to a parts car with a Hydro in it, go nuts and swap back to a Hydro. Everything should interchange. The trans is slightly different internally for the 6 cyl cars but bellhousing , flywheel, driveshaft, etc interchanges with the 6s and the 8s. Keep in mind you've got a fairly rare car there with the p-glide. However if your car is a Canadian Pontiac, the powerglide was what they used in them.
