Hi Guys

I need to know if anyone knows what the thread size for the end link to the center steering of a stepdown is. The threads bad half way through. It look like 1 and 5/64ths and 20 pitch thread. Or may be 1 and 1/16th with 20 pitch thread. Anyone know?

Just happened to have one apart (and clean) My micrometer measures the OD as 1 1/16, and the thread gauge drops in at 20 threads per inch.

Had to do it twice to convince m'self as the New Departure Handbook lists Unified and American screw threads as 1-20, and 1 1/16-18 NEF (National Extra Fine)

Odd why they didn't use a standard thread. Either size would have worked. Anybody got any ideas?

Are we talking about a male thread or a female thread?

It threw me a little bit also. They do don't list a tap for 1 and 1/16 with 20 but for 18 or 26. But it is defiantly at 20 threads per inch.

I got a ( Hudson ) Metropolitan this summer and have been restoring it . the front end has the same deal with bolt threads on it . its made in England but uses SAE thread . but is the 20 thread per inch - odd ball for sure !!

Yes, but it's a lot easier to measure the major diameter on the male.

Well, if it's tap you need there are companies that make custom taps. Pricey I am sure, but maybe cheaper then buying a new part. Or you could try running a 1" -20 tap through it to see if that would clean up the threads enough to work.

There is another thread series called constant pitch designated UN that has the same number threads per inch no matter what the diameter is. I learn this from my brother who is a Mechanical Engineer. See this web site for more information.

Mercy, if your drag link is that bad, somebody on here will give you a good one. Most of them are so greasy there is no rust at all, and the threads are perfect.

Is a power steering end link, that they must of put in a vise and caved in the threads somewhat when they were rebuilding it. It looks perfect inside but can only go in 6 of the 12 threads.
