Electric fuel pump
-
I have a 50 ford. The car has been wired for 12volt. I want to install a electric fuel pump. The engine and carb are stock for a 239 engine. Does size of the fuel line matter? I will wire to a post, that only gets hot when ignition is turned on.
Due to my medical condition,i cant put the pump back closer to the tank, and on the firewall is perfect for me. I am also pretty far from any auto shops.
someone please walk me thru this. I want to use inline filter and fuse for the pump.
I really enjoy trying to work on my ford. I want to do a good job,I am just not sure what to do.
What do i do with the old pump.
Information very appreciated.

Some of these pumps are designed to push fuel others to pull and some of them will go either way. Make sure your pump will pull from the tank when mounted that high. Best position is right in front of the fuel tank. Ues in conjunction with the stock pump and wire in a toggle switch so you can turn it on only when it's needed. Most of these pumps will put out 5 to7 lbs pressure and the engine usually requires only 2 to 4 lbs so if the electric pump is on all the time you'll have flooding problems. Good luck.

You can pick up an ajustable fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure if you want to do just the electric pump. Mount a fuel pressure guage under the hood to be sure. It also looks good! Get a chrome fuel distribution block with three holes. One for the input, one for the out put andf one for the guage.
The best idea is to use it ad a back up. Having a toggle switch is good because you can use it for theft protection.
