Installing tires on disc wheels?
-
I don't have any experience with split rims and I've heard horror stories involving the keeper rings popping off during inflation. Can these rims be serviced at home or do they need to be serviced by a big rig outfit? What is your opinion, have you worked on your rims with success?
Thanks in advance -
These need to be mounted by someone who knows how and has the equipment. Talk to a tire company for a lead.
While in St Louis I saw an 18 year old mechanic who was a vegetable and another man who had lost part of a hand to split rims. -
Many years ago I worked for Goodyear. We would do split rims on trucks and we had a special apparatise that contains the ring in case. One day one of the guys did one and did not have the thing put together correctly. It exploded and luckily no one was hurt but it scared the be-Jesus out of me.
It taught me a lesson that you always have to take your time and never skip steps.
At any rate, try your local Goodyear dealer.
