i just bought a 49 packard yesterday and have a few questions

how do i know if it's a super eight or just normal?

how many gears does it have, all i've found are 2 forward and one reverse on the collum shifter, is that it? or am i skipping one in there somewhere?

i changed the thermostat but it still reads between the middle mark and the H mark on the guage is that ok? i'm assuming that it's an old guage and not very accurate anymore. what would be the first signs of trouble if it is overheating?

the brakes throb some i havn't even taken the wheel off yet, but i would assume a warped rotor? if it even has rotors? or is it all drums??

great car so far, i'm sure i'll have more questions as time goes on, just starting to learn about it

Super 8 has a "checkerboard " grille others just have horizontal bars. Should be a 3 speed transmission with a standard shift pattern. Your car has drum brakes, no rotors unless it's been changed. Best way to determine if it's overheating is to get a thermometer and put it in the radiator neck to see what the actual temp is 150 to 190 deg should be o.k. depending on what temp thermostat is in the engine.
