If I get the rest of the tag data from the firewall, how do I tell what year this car is?

    It starts 300-xxxxxxxxxxxxx.

This car looks pretty good. On the Hudson scale of 1 to 5, this car is a 3.9.

It is for sale. I'll gladly pass along the phone number if you are interested. I have no idea what the owner is asking. Engine runs, it drives, needs a negative battery cable as it some what frayed and exposed (too much for my taste and I felt it needed to be shared).

Hi, I just check a brochure, and the Hy-Drive was apparently only used for two years, 53 and 54. I hope this helps. Steve

Hi, No, It's my brouchure. I have save several from the 50's and 60s. In 1952 the Plymouth line only had a 3 speed manuel trans. In 19590 0r 51 Dodge had a gyromatic semi=automatic. In 1953 Plymouth came out with Hy-Drive, and continued its use in 1954. In 1955 they an updated transmission, Have you got a picture you can post? Thanks, Steve

Hi, Piercearrow1935 is right to a point, the HyDrive was used in 53 & early 54, they came out with the Powerflite automatic in mid 54. Best way to tell years on the Chry products is to get the prefix to the serial no on the doo post or the engine block. On the sixes there is a machined pad at the top of the block front left side, the ser no is stamped in the side of it. They will be a letter and two digits, P for Plymouth, D for Dodge, S for DeSoto, and C for Chrysler. Think the no for 53 or 4 Ply will be around P23.

I called the owner. He confirms that it is a 53. Less than 50K. Original paint was the battleship grey. It is now Mercedes white (still looks nice). This owner states he is second owner. He further states that the farmer he bought it from only used an oiled rage to keep the body clean and to help minimize rust. I would this "trick" worked as it looks good. A mirror under the body shows normal road wear and major issues. The same under the hood. The only issue that will help this car look better is recroming the front bumper.

If anyone is interested in the car, I'll gladly give you thos number. I am out of cash. Oh, BTW, he does not have a set "asking" price. So you will need to do your home work and see the car.

It is worth saving. I just do not have the cash.
