Desperate! Need to know width of 36 frame
-
As you may know I have bought a 36 Hudson coupe without the front 2 feet of the frame. My transporter leaves on Monday to pick it up. I found a frame that the seller tells me will fit from a 37 hudson 4 door. He said these are the measurments.
44.25 inches from the inside of the frame to the inside of the frame in the middle of the x brace.
Before the transporter goes out his way to pick this front clip up on the way back I need to know for sure if the frame from this 37 will fit. Some folks are saying it is the same others are saying it is wider. If you know anything please let me know as soon as possible. Many dollars are involved.
If you have one that will fit and you are on the east coast call me or email asap.
Hudson dave my buddy has been trying to help. -
Mike,
I have a 1936, model 62 frame in the shop, and I measured across the middle of the X frame. It is just over 35 1/8 inches. I also pulled out my shop manual and parts book, both have great pictures of the 36 and 37 frames. They are very different in appearance and all measurements. The 37 is wider by about 2 inches in every way. If you can get a hold of a maintenance manual they have a chart with the break down of each year frame and the dimensions. It doesn't look like it would be a good match, without a lot of work, not to mention that the front axle is also totally different.
There is a 36 body/frame on E-bay now, but I don't think it has a front axle. -
Just a thought.... you might place a request in some of the hotrod and customizers' web bulletin boards. Every once in awhile someone street rods one of those things and probably just tosses the frame out. If he could sell it to you, there would be two happy people.

The '37 is bigger than the '36 and it would not be a match. You need either a '36 or a '35. The '37 was totally redesigned and made bigger.
