'57 Plymouth unearthed from time capsule in OK.
-
This may a bit off topic, but if you are wondering what a car looks like after being removed from a concrete vault time capsule after 50 years , this is the place to find out : http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070616/ap_on_re_us/buried_belvedere
Folks with visions of seeing a pristine '57 Plymouth being lifted out of the vault were probably shocked. The concrete was not sealed to keep the ground water out......the results were quite disgusting to see.......but the pictures show it in all it's deplorable glory....enjoy! Ken U in TX -
Complete story @ http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070616/ap_on_re_us/buried_belvedere
Figure whoever wins it will put it up on ebay - starting bid $25,000 or so. hehehehe

Geez, Steve, don't like Mopars, huh?"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..." -
The egyptians, the Myans, the Aztecs, Peruvians ect all did a better job of preserving artifacts than the gomers that buried that car. What the hell were they thinking? Looks more like they built a bomb resistant cess pool. The city councel and ancestors of the grave diggers must be proud. LOL

Guess I'm lucky to have gotten a '56 Dodge! Cuttin it kinda close though! lol -
Let's not forget, 1957 through 1960 EVERYTHING tended to rust the second they were driven out the plant door!!! Notice how few of ALL makes you see from then?"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. Certainly in the 1957 era, GM cars have the highest survival rate, and for very good reasons. Body wise they were the best, and mechanically superior to anything else. 1955-1960 Mopars were gone from the used car scene in 10 years, Fords weren't much better as their engines were Junk (Y-blocks and big blocks). From Chevy to BOP to Cadillac, GM had some of their best years. If you ever drove a 57 Plymouth, beyond the forward styling look, they were Cheap, Tinny and Crude. How many other 55-57 cars have to have their own class at car shows? Generally only Chevy's. I usually skip them, because I get tired of looking at all these Chevy's, but it's a fact. -
What do you want? You can make your own 55-57 any time you want just pick up a catalog....everything is there. In addition to my 3 Hudsons I have a 60 Dodge Matador and you are right on the rust. It will rust in just sitting covered in Southern California where it never rains. But you got to love the cross ram manifolds....and fins?

The Tri-Five Chevys don't get a second look from me, unless they are exceptional. I'll walk over to a late '50s anything-but-GM at a car show, regardless of condition, long before I'll go to the GM cars."The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,

To bad for the'57 plymouth that was buried for 50 years. I have seen cars from the twenties that have been sitting out in the desert for sixtyor seventy years that look to be in better shape.I like Mopars but the Plymouths and Dodges of that period began rusting with the first rain and if they were in a rain pron climate, there was not much left after five or so years. They were nice looking cars but lacked in quality. Tri five chevies are nice and parts are readily available. They were good mechanicaly as well. To bad Chevie or Ford are unable or unwilling to build comparable cars today. I drove a Hudson when those cars were plentiful and cheap and I still drive a Hudson, I just knew quality then and still appreciate it. Plus when I have taken my Hudson to a car show, even though it is a driver, it attracts more attention than the trailer queen Chevies. It is to bad about the'57 Plymouth, I wonder how a '57 Hudson would have held up. Thanks for letting me ramble.
