spark plug diagram
-
is there anywhere i can find a diagram for a 56 packard executive spark plug wires from the distributer to the plugs.
its came without any wires, and i would like to make sure i have them in the right place when i install them -
Motors manual & the shop manual should have the diagramsin them,or,crank the engine slowly tillm # 1 cyl is on compression stroke, also watch to see which way the rotor turns,. Firing order is usually cast on the intake manifold, left front cyl, as viewed from drivers seat is #1 & right front is # 2. Odd numbers on left bank & even ones on right bank. Also when you get # 1 at the top of the compression stroke the rotor will point to #1 on the dist cap.

Firirng order for a Packard V8 is as follows: 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2, distriutor rotates counter clockwise.

Thank you very much, does anyone know where i can pick up a shop manual? ebay?
where would the #1 be on the distributer? or do i need to find the top of the compression stroke? -
Find TDC, you don't know who's messed with the distributor. You can buy manuals on e-bay for around $50 each. Get both the service manual and the parts manual, they'll both come in handy, trust me.

Thats top dead center right.?
How do i go about finding TDC? i know ive done it before, i just want to make sure i have it right, and to make sure that its not different on a packard
i have the shop/service manual coming in the mail -
Pull # 1 spark plug & with a remote starter switch, hold your thumb over the spark plug hole and bump the starter till you feel pressure on your thumb, check the vibration dampener for the timing marks. With # 1 on compression and the timing marks lined up it will be ready to fire on # 1 cyl, then your rotor should be pointing to # 1 on the dist cap.

Ok im pretty sure i found TDC, i ended up using a soft ended screwdriver and put that in the cylinder hole and found TDC. i followed the firing order from £1 on the distributer. alls set hopefully.
