Overheat on a '56 Patrician
I am having problems with an overheat problem. Radiator has been rodded, new thermostat, new radiator cap. I have a new waterpump ordered. Chemical block check show no signs of combustion gasses in the cooling system. Did these engines have any problems with passages in the block or heads?

None that I'm aware of. Now, if this is just recent, and gets real hot really quickly, I'd bet you that you have the original bakelite water pump impeller, and it's come loose from the shaft. The pump in my '56 Patrician did the exact same thing, and that was it's problem. Put the new pump on, and make sure that the inpeller is cast iron. You'll never have the problem again. Also, you might try posting this question over on www.packardinfo.com . You'll get a wealth of answers over there.
