my father always wanted a packard.and his dream came true this winter when our 1950 victoria convertable arrived . everythings there and needs a cosmetic restoration. we fired her up after rebuilding the carb and draining the tank.the engine fired right over and ran smooth with no problems.she reads 57,000 original miles and i belive it! we then went for a short run just to check the ultramatic out, it to fonctioned perfectly!anyway i need to drain all the oils, can anyone recomend a brand of engine oil, trans,(f type?) and gear oil. 30w? detergent or non? the custom 8 hydralic lifters? ect.....thanks for any info on this car

Hi 1950 VIC
After reading up on engine oils I settled on Castrol 20 50 for my 1940 Packard. There was a lot of confusing info about bad results from the newer type oils for these older engines.
Here in California it doesnt freeze but it sure gets hot. Theres a lot of info here on the Hudson site - those guys are really into their cars. -
I've also had the best luck with the Castrol 20W50, and I won't use anything else but B&M Trickshift in the trans. I get the best, fimest shifting from that fluid. I've tried Type F, and Dexton, and the Trickshift worked the best. As for the rear, use a good synthetic 90W if it has all new seals.
