Austin Ten Studs
-
Hi, im new!
Anyway, i currently own an austin 10/4 saloon with a problem!
Today as i was undoing a stud, i pulled out a silver screw type sleeve inside the stud hole. This seems to be some sort of screw thread filler sleeve that is holding the stud into the hole. Even though this has come out, there is still a thread inside the stud hole, which is too big for the srud. Does anyone have an idea of what this part could be or where to buy one?
The stud size is 3/8 BSF.
Thanks, Luke -
It sounds like someone put a "Helicoil" in and did not lock it in with lock tight. You should be able to re-install it and it should work fine.

These are fairly common items, not Austin per se. Here's the manufacturer's homepage: http://www.emhart.com/products/helicoil.asp
I've never bought one but I would think that a good automotive supply store (like a NAPA store) or a fastener store (look in your local yellow pages) would have them in stock. You will probably have to buy a quantity of them, I don't think they sell them by the piece.
