rear main seal 390 ford?

Hello all, I am installing a fel-pro 2 peice seal in a 66 t-bird. The kit came with two metal pins that look like they are to be put in after you install the side gaskets in the main bearing cap? Do these just push in or are they not to be used. When i try to install it seems really tight!
