The 1978 Mercury Cougar was no longer the sport/luxury car that we are all used to in the 1960s and early 70s! In '78 this thing was the epitome of the land yacht! It had a 351 cubic inch Windsor motor and a very plush interior and ride. Gone were the cool sequential turn signals, the hidden headlights and everything else that made Cougar a cool car. In fact, the Thunderbird (same car) did have the hidden headlights! Figure that one out!
I spotted a couple of them on ebay for well under a $1,000.

They do fairly well in today's market. Seven grand should get you a nearly immaculate Cougar/T-Bird/Mark VI, and is not out of reason. You'll find the same-era GM Montes, Cutlass, and Skylark, along with the Chrysler Cordoba & '79 300, and the Dodge Mirada and Magnum are ALL increasing in value. Face it, if you don't have your '60s-'70s musclecar, or their more pedestrian-engined counterparts, you aren't going to get one anytime soon! The mid-to-late '70s intermediates are a great buy for under ten grand, and they are something you can actually DRIVE every day, if you want!"The time has come", the Walrus said, "to speak of many things. Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings. And why the sea is boiling hot,
And whether pigs have wings..."
