75th anniversary of the terraplane

2007 is a milestone for the TERRAPLANE, 75 years old.

Is anyone planning to celebrate this in the HET world?

James Fack wrote a booklet on the Terraplane in the '90's, available through the Railton Club & probably on EBay. It provides a very interesting background to the history of the Terraplane, and why the Terraplane chassis was so successful on the Railton.

I have a '33 ET8 4 door sedan and a '36 T 4 door sedan. They are so different. The '33 has much better visibility, less wind noise and is more compact. It seems to be very good quality construction and is very tight. The '36 has a much better chassis as far as front axle control, steering and brakes are concerned which translates to very good handling. In fact the brakes are really outstanding even driving quickly down pretty steep and long mountain descents. The '33 is not so refined in the chassis department but still very nice to drive. The 8 is such a nice engine at any speed, but the 6 is also very smooth even at 60+ mph even though lacking in torque relative to the 8. Great cars both of them and I enjoy driving them alternately.

I've been finally putting some miles under my '37 model 71 this week! Thought I had a minor problem with the car back in the Fall, but that turned out to be nothing, so out the car came yesterday. I'm going to put another 30 miles or so on it next week for a little cruise that some friends and I are attending. This car drives so nice!

Still have yet to attach the running boards or the wipers!

    And whether pigs have wings..."

Thanks for the heads up. Mine will be out and about when the snow is gone.

When the snow does leave, and a Nor'easter is coming tomorrow, I'll drive one of the 4 every day all summer and fall. I actually drove the 47 HPU to Jim's garage party Feb 2nd. Valentine's day it snowed under 30 in and is still there.
