1965 XD Cobra prototype

Does anyone out there know anything about Ford's 1965
Cobra prototype? This is a two-seat convertible (see images below). I'd like to know why Ford developed this concept, what it was supposed to have under the hood, and why it never made it to production. Additional information would also be useful, such as who was responsbible for the Cobra project.
