308 block needed
-
I need a solid block to replace my '52 308 which is cracked in an area that would make repair difficult. Crankshaft is good, as are peripherals. Would like to limit the overbore as much as possible.
I would greatly appreciate any info on possible sources.

Walt, I have several '55 blocks here in the Dallas, Tx area. They use the 1/2" head bolts, and have the 7X releif. You can use your '52 crank in these blocks, and another advantage is the '55 uses a modern two peice rubber "Brummer" rear main seal, doesn't leak like the old rope seals on the '51-54 308's, much easier to replace when need be, too. All your '52 internals, crank, rods, etc will transfer. If you are looking for a Hudson person to rebuild your 308 reasonably close to LA, I work at Kip Motor co in Dallas TX, and can probably rebuild your engine there, if Kip will allow it . If you want the block alone, I can have it vatted and magnafluxed, and ship to you freight. If you want me to rebuild, then you can ship the internals, or maybe I can pick up. These blocks are still standard bore, but should be bored about .010 or .020" over. We use Kim Barr Racing for all our machine work, and have been satisfied with their work. I would probably want $250 for the block plus the cost of having it vatted and magnafluxed. Let me know if you're interested, Kenneth Ufheil

Ken,
Would you please contact me at: HETmasonw@uab.edu? Tried contact info in old roster with no luck. Walt -
Lester Harris, our Chapter parts locator has around 6-7 308 blocks, and engines. He can supply most of the internal parts for any Hudson engine 6 or 8. His phone number is (775) 267-2559 He is in Minden Nevada, near Carson City. He ships UPS for the lighter parts.
