Hornet hood wont stay closed
-
The hood on my 51 hornet won't stay closed. It will close, but the slightest bumpn the road causes it to pop up. I cant seem to figure out what keeps it down. Can anyone explain how it works, or does anyone know of something I an check or adjust?
Thanks, Brian -
To me it sounds like the "plunger" that mounts on th e hood side and sinks into the latch mechanism isn't adjusted down enough to 1) hit the safety latch, 2) close all the way

We had the same problem and spent a lot of time fooling with the latch but it turned out that the bolt that secures the sheet metal where the plunger goes had fallen out and the sheet metal was flexing. We removed the hood ornament and replaced the bolt and all is secure. It's a serious problem that needs to be rectified immediately. Also, check the height of the rubber bumpers.

Outstanding! That was it. My hood ornament is still on the "Doc Hudson" movie car. I had not considered that the bracket held on by the front hood ornament bolt would have been the culprit. I kept focusing on the latch mechanism. I temporarily put a bolt in the hole to secure the bracket and now the hood is staying closed.
Thanks!

Too much motor underneath.
